Highly absorbent underpads with highly absorbent polymer protect patient's delicate skin. Fluids are drawn from the patient's skin and locked into the polymer. This leaves the facing and the patient drier and more comfortable. No need to stack multiple smaller pads which could be costly! Just use one very large pad to cover the bed.
